Non-psychoactive

Unlike psychoactive compounds, non-psychoactive substances do not have significant effects on brain function, processes, perception and behaviour when consumed.

Non-psychoactive products or compounds do not produce ‘intoxicating’ effects or alter mental processes in the same way as psychoactive substances. CBD is an example of a non-psychoactive chemical that naturally occurs in cannabis and hemp plants.

How does this relate to medical cannabis?

Some of the compounds produced by Cannabis sativa L. plants are psychoactive - primarily THC.

CBD, on the other hand, is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis and hemp plants. This means that it does not produce the ‘high’ commonly associated with cannabis consumption.

Do both THC and CBD offer therapeutic benefits?

Yes, clinical research has proven that both the psychoactive and non-psychoactive compounds in cannabis have therapeutic properties.
